David James and Nigel Martyn laud Illan Meslier’s Leeds United display
Leeds United goalkeeper, Illan Meslier, put in a fine performance against Burnley and caught the eye of both Nigel Martyn and David James.
The young stopper pulled off a number of good saves and took charge of his box when needed against the Clarets, as the Whites ran out 1-0 winners in a tight affair at Elland Road.
Meslier has quickly become one of the Premier League’s most talked about goalkeepers. At just 20, the Frenchman has replaced Kiko Casilla and took to the top flight like a duck to water.
Indeed, his performance today caught the attention of former Leeds idol, Nigel Martyn, who took to Twitter to call out the ‘tremendous job’ Meslier is doing this season.

David James, meanwhile, was also full of praise for Meslier. The former Liverpool man praising the Leeds stopper’s willingness to keep coming for crosses even when under pressure from Burnley.

It was certainly a good display from Meslier and his performance got him his fifth clean sheet of what has so far been an excellent season for the young Leeds stopper.

Meslier is becoming an increasingly better goalkeeper week by week and it’s nice to see two former top goalkeepers take the time out to sing his praises.
Martyn and James are both Premier League legends and played at the very highest level. Therefore, they know what they’re talking about when it comes to ‘keepers.
Meslier should take heart from these comments and continue to improve into the season.
