The defender has been linked with several sides including Liverpool (), that the player would be open to making a move to the Premier League.

Liverpool, of course, raided Bayern during the last transfer window to sign Thiago Alcantara, and it remains to be seen if Alaba will make a free switch to join the Spaniard at Anfield.

In the eyes of James, Alaba’s quality is not in doubt, although Liverpool would need to think carefully about what a move would me for others.

: “I’m just trying to work out what system they would play if they had him in the side.

“He is a phenomenal player. Watching him in the Champions League, he is scary going forward. Liverpool would want him – any top six of English clubs would want him.

“These short-term fixes have long-term consequences because you end up pushing someone further down the line. It’s whether it fits into the Liverpool plan.”

Another ex-Liverpool man Danny Murphy was more open to the idea: “In terms of his ability, he absolutely fits. He’s a super player.

The star is a very intelligent player, who is probably one of the most versatile high-level players in Europe.

One would think he wouldn’t have too many problems, and to get him on a potential free transfer is just a no-brainer.
