Speaking on CBS, David Beckham has shared his reaction to this game, and he’s given his verdict on this Arsenal performance.
Of course, as a former Galactico, Beckham was rooting for Real Madrid in this game, but he held his hands up and said that Arsenal deserved this win for their showing over two legs.

David Beckham shares Arsenal verdict
Beckham shared what he thinks of Arsenal’s performance against Real Madrid.
The former England captain says that this was a complete performance from the Gunners, while he also reserved some special praise for Mikel Arteta and his management of this game.
Beckham does have a soft spot for Arsenal, he once trained with the club, while Beckham is a big fan of Bukayo Saka as a player.
“A lot of people actually expected a bit of a comeback, that’s what they were saying in Madrid leading up to it. In all honesty, over the two games Arsenal deserved it, it was the complete performance from Arsenal, great individual performances, great team performance and great management from Mikel so they deserved it,” Beckham said.
Arsenal vs Real Madrid stats over two legs
Beckham says that this was a complete performance from Arsenal over two legs, and he’s not wrong.
Indeed, Arsenal did everything right in these two matches.
Declan Rice was hailed for his first-leg performance after scoring two incredible free kicks, but he was arguably better in the away leg as he shut down any sense of danger from Real Madrid.
The stats from the two matches show that Arsenal were great value for their win.
Real Madrid | Arsenal | |
27 | Shots | 23 |
6 | Shots on target | 15 |
56.4% | Average possession | 43.6% |
1.9 | Expected goals | 3.7 |
1 | Goals | 5 |
Arsenal had less possession, but they created way more than Madrid in terms of expected goals and had more shots on target.
Now, Arsenal are just three games from immortality, they face PSG over two legs in the semi-finals before a potential clash with either Barcelona or Inter Milan in the final.
PSG will be a tough test for Arsenal, especially as Le Parisiens have already dispatched two English sides, but after beating Madrid 5-1 on aggregate, Mikel Arteta’s side will feel as though anything is possible.
