Darren Randolph sends Instagram message to Caoimhin Kelleher after Liverpool win
Liverpool youngster Caoimhin Kelleher enjoyed a dream Champions League debut last night, helping the Reds into the knockout stages with a 1-0 win over Ajax at Anfield.
With Alisson Becker the latest player to pick up an injury, Jurgen Klopp chose to unleash the young Irishman at the expense of Adrian.
It paid dividends as the 22-year-old produced two moments of magic to deny the Dutch champions an equaliser that would have left Liverpool sweating on their qualification.
Kelleher will now fancy his chances of taking the role as Alisson’s understudy – with Adrian guilty of some high-profile errors in the last 12 months.
Following last night’s game, the Liverpool stopper posted a heartfelt message on Instagram and received praise from his international counterpart Darren Randolph.
The West Ham stopper was quick to rave about his performance against Ajax.
The challenge for Kelleher now is clear. If he can grasp his chance in the next two weeks, it will showcase to Klopp that he is the man to deputies for Alisson going forward.
At 22 there is plenty of time for the Republic of Ireland stopper to continue learning his trade and also showcasing his talents.
Alisson will, of course, remain the number one goalkeeper but in his absence, someone needs to show they are capable of stepping up.

After last night’s display, it seems likely that Adrian will drop down to third in the pecking order.
Klopp has been known to utilise the club’s academy ranks when injuries have presented themself.
Kelleher showcased last night exactly why he could be the next talent to emerge from the Anfield conveyor belt.
