Darren Fletcher compares Man United’s Bruno Fernandes deal to three Liverpool transfers
that he reckons Manchester United’s deal to bring Bruno Fernandes to the club is similar to Liverpool signing the likes of Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino.
Fernandes, 25, has been in sensational form for Manchester United since joining the club from Sporting Lisbon in January for a fee that could reach a whopping £67.7million. He has scored three goals, and created three more in eight outings.
Indeed, the Portugal international was in excellent form as Manchester United surprised many to beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday evening. Fernandes laid on an assist for Anthony Martial’s strike.
United icon Fletcher explained that he feels the signing of Fernandes could turn out to be a similar deal to Liverpool agreeing moves for their excellent front three – in that they have brought him in now, and in a few years he could become a world beater.

“They have to plan for three or four years down the line,” “They have to buy the players that Liverpool bought, two or three years ago. Mane, Salah, Firmino. That is difficult.
“But you have to identify those talents who are just under the radar, pay a good bit of money for them, and then let them blossom into world-class players as part of your team. Bruno Fernandes is the perfect example.”
TBR’s view – Could Fernandes become as influential down the line?
Salah, Firmino and Mane have been the attacking driving force at Anfield over the past couple of seasons and it looks set to deliver the club not only a Champions League medal, but a Premier League one too.
They are enormously influential. Could Fernandes have the same effect in two or three years? Certainly, he is an excellent signing and has transformed United since moving to Old Trafford. But he cannot do it all on his own.
If United are to reach the heights of Liverpool, they needs three or four more signings like Fernandes. But landing the Portuguese star is an excellent start.
