Darren Bent would be happy if Arsenal signed ‘unbelievable’ £45m PL player in January

Darren Bent has suggested that he would take Kalvin Phillips at Arsenal as the midfielder seemingly edges closer to leaving Manchester City in the January transfer window.

Kalvin Phillips will surely be on the move next month after struggling for minutes since his switch to the Etihad Stadium.

And while Darren Bent told he would not push Declan Rice forward to accommodate him, he insisted that he would be happy if Mikel Arteta did end up signing the England international.

“I would take him at Arsenal,” he told talkSPORT.

“No, see Declan Rice, I think sit in, perfect for him,” he added when asked if he would push Rice forward.

“But I’d take him.”

England international could be a smart signing for the Gunners – but move seems unlikely

It does appear that Arsenal do need further reinforcements in the middle of the park. Thomas Partey has spent much of this season on the sidelines once again. And it does seem that Arsenal have lost patience with Partey and could let him go in January.

Jorginho has been a good performer whenever he has come in. But they do lack someone who can really provide cover for Rice, who has been exceptional since his move in the summer.

Phillips would obviously like to move somewhere where he is going to play regularly. Otherwise, he would surely be content to remain where he is at the Etihad Stadium.

Arsenal would not be able to offer assurances over game-time. And thus, it is hard to imagine that he will make the move to the Emirates next month.

But Phillips has the quality to be an ‘‘ player. So if he was happy to join Arsenal and they could reach an agreement with Manchester City, he would arguably be a very smart signing as the Gunners look to get themselves across the line in the title race.

And Darren Bent may not be the only Arsenal fan who would happily take him when the window opens.
