Darren Bent slams West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini for his approach vs Newcastle

Former Premier League striker Darren Bent has questioned West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini, after his side were beaten by Newcastle United at home at the weekend.

The Irons found themselves 3-0 down after 51 minutes to a side that have struggled to score goals this season.

Steve Bruce’s side were much the better team in every department and were deserving of the three points.

The Hammers did pull two goals back in the last 20 minutes, but that has done little to ease the backlash.

, Bent pointed out a couple of poor things on the part of the Chilean.

He said: “I look at Pellegrini for that game. Team selection, maybe not doing his research. Not really paying Newcastle enough respect. That first half was embarrassing.

“If you are a West Ham fan and you turned up and watched that, you’d be absolutely fuming.”

TBR’s view – Pellegrini got it so wrong

The weekend result has portrayed Pellegrini in a pretty poor light.

This was the perfect fixture for West Ham to get themselves back on track, but the manager’s selection was hugely questionable.

Starting Pablo Zabaleta against Allan Saint-Maximin was asking for trouble, and Angelo Ogbonna should have featured alongside Issa Diop as the pair have shown a decent partnership earlier in the season.

The high line allowed Newcastle to wreak havoc in behind, and fans have every right to criticise the 66-year-old, who surely should have known better.
