Darren Bent predicts if Tottenham will finish in the top four and gives opinion on Dominic Solanke signing

Tottenham Hotspur have endured a mixed bag of results at the start of the 2024-25 Premier League campaign.

Ange Postecoglou’s side bounced back from their 1-1 opening day draw against Leicester City with a 4-0 demolition of Everton a week after.

However, they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United before the international break as the Magpies came from behind to record a fantastic win at St James’ Park.

With a handful of other teams like Chelsea, Aston Villa, Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion strengthening heavily this summer, they could face an uphill battle to improve on their fifth-place finish from last season.

And Darren Bent believes his former team will fall desperately short of a place in the Premier League top four, although he delivered a positive verdict on the signing of Dominic Solanke.

Darren Bent lauds Dominic Solanke and predicts Tottenham to finish fifth

The 26-year-old joined the club for a fee of and led the line for Spurs in the first game before picking up an ankle injury.

When asked to predict where Tottenham will finish this season, Bent said they’d find it difficult to improve on their fifth-place finish from the previous campaign.

The Englishman also lauded Spurs for the signing of Wilson Obobert, who joined the club from Burnley late in the transfer window.

“Five – Spurs. They look quite decent. Dominic Solanke, I really like him,” Bent said on (Sept 3rd, 5:38 pm).

“I know he has got the injury, but I think he is decent. I really like Odobert as well. He is young, but I like him as well. I have gone Spurs five.”

Ally McCoist believes Solanke will bang in the goals at Tottenham, which is another sign that his arrival in North London has been met with a positive reaction.

Odobert’s signing has also garnered a good response, with Daniel Sturridge hailing his confidence and ability on the ball.

How did Tottenham fare in the transfer market?

Aside from Solanke and Odobert, Spurs also got in Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, while they agreed a deal in principle to sign South Korean talent Min-hyeok Yang in January 2025.

Postecoglou was active in the transfer market and has managed to fine-tune his squad, having offloaded the likes of Emerson Royal, Ivan Perisic, Eric Dier, Oliver Skipp and Giovani Lo Celso, among others.

Despite their transfer business, Spurs have a battle in their hands to secure a top-four finish as teams around them have also considerably bolstered their ranks in the summer.
