Darren Bent explains why Micky van de Ven is so crucial for Tottenham against Arsenal

Tottenham Hotspur have the opportunity to make amends for their mixed start to the Premier League season in the best possible way.

On Sunday, Tottenham will host arch-rivals Arsenal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with three crucial points – plus bragging rights – up for grabs.

A number of Arsenal-leaning pundits have suggested that now is as good a time as any for Spurs to face the Gunners.

The visitors will be without several key players for their trip to N17, such as Declan Rice and Mikel Merino.

Others, like Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus and Riccardo Calafiori, are doubts and will likely face late fitness tests.

Meanwhile, Tottenham are expected to have some key players back for the derby.

TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has now claimed that one of those players will be crucial for Spurs.

Micky van de Ven will allow Tottenham to play high line effectively against Arsenal

The player in question is Micky van de Ven, who wasn’t involved in Tottenham’s loss to Newcastle before the international break.

Ange Postecoglou told on Friday that the £43million man is now “all good” and is likely to start for Spurs.

Bent, speaking on talkSPORT, explained why Van de Ven will be so important for Tottenham against their North London rivals.

“I think Van de Ven is crucial because of the way they play – that front foot, high energy, halfway line,” said the former Spurs striker.

“Just because he allows them to play that high line because he knows his recovery speed is, and we are not blessed with blistering pace as a centre-forward. So I think he is key.”

Who could miss out for Tottenham against Arsenal?

Although Van de Ven is expected to be available, Spurs have some doubts and some confirmed absences too.

Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma, who limped off on international duty, will face a late fitness test.

Meanwhile, summer signing Dominic Solanke is likely to be available but Postecoglou stopped short of confirming this.

In terms of confirmed absences, Richarlison and Will Lankshear are currently undergoing rehabilitation and won’t be involved.
