Darren Anderton urges Tottenham to sign Wolves striker
Darren Anderton has urged new Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo to raid his form club Wolves for Raul Jimenez.
In an interview with the , the former Tottenham midfielder backed Spurs to sign the Mexican.
The 2020/21 campaign proved traumatic for the 86-cap striker. He scored four goals but hasn’t played since a 2-1 win over Arsenal in November after fracturing his skull.
He does look fit to return to pre-season training though, after a long recovery from such a serious setback. Anderton thinks Tottenham have to pounce – especially if Harry Kane goes.
“I would love for Nuno to bring Raul Jimenez in.
“He’s different class – My, what a player. He has that horrific injury but managers usually bring in a player or two from their old club. Fingers crossed there’s an opportunity.”
Jimenez has been magnificent for Wolves. He was signed for from Benfica and is arguably one of the club’s best-ever signings.
He has been a goalscoring machine since arriving at the club, helping Wolves establish themselves as a Premier League club.
Jimenez has scored 48 times in 110 appearances, whilst he’s also laid 18 assists on for his teammates.
Tottenham would pull off coup with Jimenez addition
Although he’s now 30-years-old, that perhaps wouldn’t deter Tottenham from pulling off a decent deal for Jimenez.
He knows Espirito Santo and fits nicely into the system which he likes to utilise during matches. Jimenez has also scored three goals during his career against Spurs.
He earns at Wolves and even with a pay rise, he’d fit nicely into Tottenham’s salary structure.
Signing Jimenez would probably depend on Kane’s future. If he leaves, the club may well look to replace him with more than one striker.
Adding the Mexican could prove smart business though and would be a deal that has the potential to excite Spurs supporters.
