Danny Rose comments on Newcastle United fanbase will delight supporters
that he cannot wait to play in front of the Newcastle United crowd, after completing a loan move to St. James’ Park from Tottenham Hotspur.
Rose, 29, had fallen out of favour at Tottenham under Jose Mourinho. He was included in the matchday squad just once in Spurs’ last five Premier League games, with Mourinho using Jan Vertonghen and Ryan Sessegnon instead.
Ben Davies is close to a return from injury and that has seen Rose look to leave on loan, choosing Newcastle despite interest from Bournemouth, Watford and three other Premier League sides –
Rose says he was told by Steve Bruce that 50,000 fans packed into St. James’ Park in the FA Cup clash against Oxford United – which resulted in a 0-0 draw. Rose said he is looking forward to playing for The Toon’s fanbase.
“For me, it’s really exciting that I can come here and have the chance to play in front of the Newcastle fans. Newcastle is one of the biggest clubs in England,”
“I spoke to the manager last night and he told me there were 50,000 fans here at the weekend against Oxford. You can’t go wrong with that kind of passion and support from the fans, and it’s something I’m looking forward to.”
TBR’s view – Can Rose break into England 2020 side?
The former Leeds youth player desperately needs a run of games and a return to a decent level of form to convince Gareth Southgate that he deserves a place in the England side ahead of this summer’s Euro 2020.
Certainly, Rose is only 29 and has been an England regular for large parts of his career. There is no doubt that the left-back can earn his place back, but he needs to remain injury free and he needs to hit the ground running on Tyneside.
