Danny Murphy would put two Everton stars into combined XI with Liverpool

Danny Murphy believes two Everton players would currently make it into a Liverpool-Everton combined XI.

The Toffees are currently top of the Premier League table after winning their first four games, and Carlo Ancelotti’s side are much improved from last season.

New signings James Rodriguez, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan have made a significant impact, but Murphy believes it is two stars from last season who are deserving of getting into a combined XI of Everton and Liverpool players right now.

, he said: “You can chart Everton’s progress by thinking about who you would pick in a joint Liverpool-Everton XI. A couple of years ago, I picked 10 Reds and Andre Gomes, but more of Ancelotti’s players would be in contention now.

“You would not leave Calvert-Lewin out of any team and at the back, Yerry Mina would deserve his place based on this season’s performances.

Calvert-Lewin has seldom been out of the headlines this season of course, having notched an amazing 10 goals for club and country already.

TBR’s View – Hard to argue right now?

Certainly based on current form, Calvert-Lewin is playing better than Roberto Firmino at the moment, and £120,000-a-week star Mina () has quietly been solid whereas Joe Gomez has been a little suspect.

James Rodriguez has been sublime on the right side, but probably would just miss out with Mo Salah having been the Reds’ best player.

Maybe one of Doucoure or Allan could also be in there, with both having been fantastic since their arrivals on Merseyside.
