Danny Murphy suggests Crystal Palace star Aaron Wan-Bissaka for Tottenham

that Crystal Palace right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be a good signing for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer.

Wan-Bissaka, 21, returned from a hamstring injury to help Palace secure an excellent 3-1 win away at Burnley on Saturday. He supplied Michy Batshuayi with an excellent assist for his side’s second.

The youngster has made the right-back role his own under Roy Hodgson. Indeed, the defender made his 29th appearance of the season in all competitions – under the watchful eye of England boss Gareth Southgate.

Former Spurs midfielder Murphy believes he could be a target this summer for the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal, before suggested Tottenham as a possible suitor.

“Has he overtaken Trippier, or can he?” “Do Tottenham want to upgrade? Because he [Trippier] doesn’t play every week. [Mauricio] Pochettino switches between him and [Serge] Aurier.”

TBR’s view

Wan-Bissaka is no doubt an excellent young prospect that is going to earn England caps throughout his career. But to suggest that he could overtake Trippier is very harsh on the latter.

Form is temporary, and class is permanent. Sure, Trippier has not been at his best since the World Cup. But he is still a reliable right-back, with the ability to create from the right flank and a danger from set-pieces.

Wan-Bissaka is worth a whopping £40million. For chairman Daniel Levy to spend that kind of sum on a player that has only played 33 times in the Premier League throughout his career is ludicrous.

Especially, when the club already have an excellent right-back in Trippier and more than adequate back up in Aurier.
