Danny Murphy says ‘brilliant’ Tottenham player is currently the best in the Premier League
Danny Murphy believes Tottenham Hotspur’s Guglielmo Vicario has been the best goalkeeper in the Premier League this season.
Murphy has been naming his best XI of the season so far and named Guglielmo Vicario as his goalkeeper.
Vicario has exceeded expectations since joining Spurs from Empoli over the summer.
Tottenham snapped up the Italian for just after initially being linked with a move for David Raya.
It’s fair to say that Spurs will be delighted with their choice to target Vicario, with the Italian making an instant impact in North London.
Indeed, Jamie Carragher has already named Vicario in his Premier League Team of the Season so far.
And now Murphy has followed suit, claiming the Spurs shot-stopper has been the ‘standout’ goalkeeper in the league this term.

Speaking on , Murphy lauded Vicario after an impressive start to life at Tottenham.
“I think a lot of the players I’ve chosen are people who have exceeded expectations and really kicked on to a place I didn’t think they were capable of,” he said.
“The Tottenham keeper, Vicario, considering he come as an unknown to many of us, the way he’s adapted so quickly, he’s been brilliant. I think he’s been the standout.”
Vicario has quickly established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the league based on his current form.
Many expected Spurs to struggle to replace their long-term number one Hugo Lloris. But it would appear they have succeeded at the first attempt.
Of course, Lloris has also recently left on a free transfer after 11 years at the club.
The Frenchman was an exceptional player for Spurs over the years but Vicario is certainly an upgrade, especially when it comes to his ability to play out from the back.
Bringing in the Italian has allowed Tottenham to play the Ange Postecoglou way, while Vicario has also proven to be a brilliant shot-stopper.
