Danny Murphy reacts to incident involving Leeds youngster against Chelsea
Danny Murphy that some will suggest that Ian Poveda cost Leeds United a point by not going to ground when challenged by Ben Chilwell inside the penalty area on Saturday.
The Whites were beaten 3-1 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The home side were certainly the better team for much of the contest. However, Marcelo Bielsa’s side could perhaps feel aggrieved that they were not given a penalty when 2-1 down.

Poveda beat Chilwell to the ball inside the box, which resulted in the left-back catching the Leeds winger. Poveda however, stayed on his feet and continued his run before getting a shot away.
Surprisingly, there seemed to be little interest in checking whether the visitors should have been awarded a spot-kick. It certainly appears that Poveda was penalised for staying on his feet.

But rather than criticise the officials, Murphy suggested that some will criticise the Leeds youngster.
“Some people will say he’s stupid,” . “‘He’s cost his team a point because he knows if he goes down, it’s a definite penalty with the rules being the way they are’.”
TBR View: Criticism of Poveda seems unfair
You could understand why Leeds supporters may have been frustrated with Poveda. The incident was very similar to one involving Danny Welbeck and Andrew Robertson when Brighton met Liverpool last week.
On that occasion, Welbeck went to ground. And that perhaps forced the VAR to take another look before a penalty was awarded. And Leeds fans may certainly wish that Poveda had made the most of the contact to ensure that it was checked. Presumably, had it been looked at again, it would have been given.
However, the decision to not award a penalty and any subsequent criticism of Poveda is only going to increase the likelihood of players deceiving the officials in future.
