Danny Murphy backs Liverpool to move for game-changing £60m player

Liverpool are likely to be busy on the transfer front in the coming weeks as Arne Slot looks to strengthen his ranks.

The Reds are yet to make a single signing this summer, with Slot opting to take a good look at his team in wake of taking the Anfield reins.

With deadline day just over three weeks away, Liverpool will likely delve into the market in pursuit of reinforcements that can improve the squad quality.

One area the Reds are likely to target is at the back, with Joel Matip having left on a free transfer and Joe Gomez facing an uncertain future at Anfield.

Now, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has given a very positive verdict on a £60million player who the Reds have been linked with.

Murphy, speaking on , believes Liverpool will want to sign said player if they “want to be winning the Champions League and Premier League again.

Danny Murphy backs Liverpool to move for Marc Guehi

The player in question is Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi, who has been tipped for a big move this summer.

Liverpool were previously linked with the 24-year-old, but TBR Football sources recently revealed that the Reds have cooled their interest in him.

Despite the Reds seemingly deciding against a move for Guehi, Murphy reckons they could go for him after all, suggesting he’d be a game-changer.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if they nick on this deal for Guehi,” the former Anfield man said on talkSPORT.

“Matip’s gone, Gomez is looking like he wants to leave to get regular football and that only leaves three centre-halves with Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk and Jarell Quansah.

“If Liverpool want to be winning Champions League and Premier League again, I think they might come in for Guehi.”

Guehi highly sought after by Premier League clubs

Guehi reportedly has a £60million price tag, so any club looking to move for him would have to loosen their purse strings.

The England international would certainly be a great addition for Liverpool, but it remains to be seen whether they will actually rekindle their interest in him.

If the Reds don’t move for Guehi, then they risk missing out on him to a Premier League rival.

Arsenal were linked with a move for Guehi before they signed Riccardo Calafiori, while Tottenham are said to be keen on the defender and Newcastle have also been credited with an interest.
