Danny Mills comments on Leeds star Gjanni Alioski’s reportedly potential move

Leeds United defender Gjanni Alioski is reportedly risking the backlash of his current club’s supporters with a reported move to Galatasaray in the pipeline – and Danny Mills has given his verdict on a potential move to Gala.

Alioski, 29, is out of contract this summer. He is set to represent North Macedonia at the European Championships. entering the tournament still under contract but by the time Euro 2021 finishes – he will be a free agent.

Galatasaray remain fierce enemies of Leeds fans, after two fans – namely, Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight – were murdered by Gala supporters in 2000 the night before a UEFA Cup clash, which bizarrely went ahead.

this year that Gala had agreed a pre-contract with Alioski, and those reports have surfaced once again – to the outrage of Leeds fans.

“I don’t think Harry [Kewell, who joined Gala from Leeds – despite being a part of the Leeds side then] is welcome in Leeds in any way shape or form – their feelings are that strong. Alioski is a fantastic character, Leeds fans love him.

“He’s adorable on social media,” “He’s brilliant. He might not have even known of the situation, but possibly not in the grand scheme of things and what it meant to Leeds, the club, the city. Leeds fans are split.

“Some will go, okay, time has moved on and he didn’t really know about it. I still think that there will be half of them that won’t be happy. If there was fans in the ground, there would be a lot of boos because of the Galatasaray link.”

TBR’s view – Alioski should be avoiding Galatasaray at all costs

Without the history, a move makes sense. The chance to join a side in European football, that is much closer to home and allows him to increase his international career looks like the right one. But if there is one club to avoid, this is it.

Kewell was a marvelous player for Leeds, and loved during his time at Elland Road. Arguably, he has been the most-gifted Leeds player in the last two decades. But he is hated for the move he made to Gala.

It is different for Alioski, given Kewell was a member of that side at that time. But if there is another opportunity for Alioski to take going forward, then he should really consider avoiding Gala – and spoiling his Leeds spell.
