Danny Gabbidon felt for Arthur Masuaku after West Ham red card
Ex-West Ham defender Danny Gabbidon believes his former side lacked a cutting edge in their draw against Aston Villa on Monday night.
The Hammers recorded a 0-0 draw away to Villa in the Premier League, as they missed out on the chance to jump up to third in the table.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side do have eight points from their opening five league games though and it’s a fairly decent start to the campaign for them.
They host Manchester United next on Sunday in the league, before traveling to Oxford United in the Carabao Cup third round.
Gabbidon also explained he felt sorry for defender Arthur Masuaku, who was sent off against Villa in the second-half and left his team to play out over 20 minutes with a men less.
Masuaku picked up his first booking for a rough late challenge, but the second seemed very harsh and unintentional.

“West Ham’s tiki-taka was more beneficial with 10 men. Allowed them to still retain possession comfortably and keep the pressure at bay. With 11 men it was easy on the eye but not a lot of end product. Masuaku does some silly things but feel for him there, poor reffing,”
TBR’s View:
Masuaku’s dismissal looked extremely harsh, but the left-back was already on a booking and giving the referee a chance to make a decision was always going to be risky.
Pellegrni’s team ended up finishing strongly with 10 men and could have stolen three points, but a draw seemed a fair result in the end.
The Hammers need to try find a consistency in attack and a way to ensure that star centre-forward Sebastien Haller is always given a supply line.
