Danish media shocked by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s tackle on Martin Odegaard in friendly match
Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg caught attention for a tackle on Arsenal’s Martin Odegaard in a friendly fixture on Sunday evening.
Hojbjerg and his Denmark teammates are currently gearing up for the Euros, preparing to face England in the tournament’s group stages.
Sadly for Arsenal captain Odegaard, Norway won’t be in Germany this summer, having failed to utilise Erling Haaland’s goalscoring to qualify.
Either way, the two Nordic countries faced off in a friendly precluding the tournament on Sunday, which ended in a 3-1 win for Denmark.
Incidentally, Hojbjerg scored Denmark’s opening goal, now scoring in three consecutive games for his country.
And whilst that remarkable feat was recognised by Danish media in the aftermath of the game, there was also another talking point.

Known for his combative style in the Premier League, Hojbjerg didn’t pay too much attention to the idea of Sunday’s game being a ‘friendly’ in the 49th minute of the match.
Hojbjerg was booked for a ‘bad foul’ on Odegaard, as called by , one that wouldn’t look too out of place in a north London derby.

Danish outlet mentioned the incident when sharing their individual rating for Hojbjerg after the match.
And after initially praising the midfielder, Bold then mentioned the foul in question, wondering if Hojbjerg forgot he wasn’t wearing a Tottenham shirt.
They wrote: “Hojbjerg does not look like a man who struggles to get playing time at club level.
“The midfielder scored for the second international game in a row, and generally did well, even if there were still a few failures.
“Maybe he forgot it wasn’t a game between Spurs and Arsenal when he got a yellow card for roughing Odegaard.”
Of course, Odegaard was fine to continue with the Norway captain completing all 90 minutes in the disappointing 3-1 defeat.
Hojbjerg may not face Arsenal in a Tottenham shirt again
All that being said, Hojbjerg perhaps will never wear a Tottenham shirt again, let alone against Odegaard and Arsenal.
Ange Postecoglou is thought to be happy to let Hojbjerg leave Tottenham this summer, who doesn’t necessarily suit the club’s playing philosophy.
Fortunately, Antonio Conte is said to want to sign Hojbjerg for Napoli, a manager he played well for in north London.
Hojbjerg has excelled for Spurs at times, particularly under Jose Mourinho’s stewardship, but it does seem like a suitable time for a change.
Of course, if Spurs can secure a departure for Hojbjerg, it may pave the way for Tottenham to sign a ‘world class’ striker this summer.
