Daniel Sturridge says Tottenham have a teenage talent who can offer something unique at Spurs
Tottenham have experienced a mixed start to the 2024/25 Premier League campaign.
Ange Postecoglou has watched his side record a draw, a win and a defeat against Leicester, Everton and Newcastle respectively to kick off the new season, with Spurs yet to really get going.
However – before Tottenham suffered defeat to Newcastle on Sunday – Daniel Sturridge highlighted a teenage talent who could help lift Spurs by providing something the north Londoners have not had for some time…
Daniel Sturridge praises Wilson Odobert
Speaking on Sky Sports, the 35-year-old pinpointed Wilson Odobert as a potentially game changing player for Tottenham.
Sturridge said: “We are talking about a guy who is going to be taking people on with the ball at his feet. He is not shy of confidence, he can go either way, left foot, right foot, stepovers. This guy is going to bring creativity to Spurs in one on one situations that they have probably not had for a while, in terms of how direct he plays.”
Sturridge makes a good point.
Odobert – who was signed in a £25m deal from Burnley this summer – is a more traditional winger, the type Spurs moved away from under Mauricio Pochettino in favour of wing backs and added quality in central areas.

The last winger of this ilk we can recall Tottenham owning is Aaron Lennon, who often got fans off their seats at White Hart Lane, while memorably running the length of the pitch to assist Peter Crouch against AC Milan inside the San Siro.
Frenchman will be a hit for Tottenham
It is only a matter of time until Odobert, who impressed Tottenham fans in Sunday’s 2-1 defeat against Newcastle, thrives at Spurs.
As WhoScored shows, the teenager is in the same conversation as Barcelona and Spain wonderkid Lamine Yamal when it comes to successful dribbles, completing 53 in the 2023/24 campaign.
Furthermore, Odobert has actually been clocked running faster than Real Madrid No.7 Vinicius Junior, so he clearly has the tools to mix it with Europe’s elite forwards.
It should also be noted that the man from Meaux has not actually had a chance to play alongside Dominic Solanke yet either, so the presence of a proper No.9 in the box should make his life easier.
Therefore, once Odobert fully settles and adjusts to Postecoglou’s training, Tottenham fans should be treated to an electric talent lighting up the flanks on a weekly basis – in our view, at least.
