Daniel Levy wields Ange Postecoglou axe at Tottenham amid talks with ‘amazing’ potential replacement

TBR Football can exclusively confirm that Tottenham Hotspur have sacked Ange Postecoglou – and a frontrunner has already emerged to take his place.

Ange Postecoglou’s dismissal comes just over a fortnight after he guided Tottenham to Europa League glory, giving the club their first trophy since 2008.

However, Postecoglou has paid the price for a dismal domestic campaign, with Spurs finishing a lowly 17th in the table.

TBR Football can also confirm that Daniel Levy has held conversations with a number of contenders, and one has really “impressed” him.

Thomas Frank has ‘impressed’ Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy as Ange Postecoglou sacked

“As TBR Football revealed on Monday, Ange Postecoglou was expected to be sacked this week,” said TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey.

“It has taken until Friday – but the decision has been made and confirmed via Tottenham.

“I can confirm that talks have been ongoing with potential replacements for weeks.

“And our information is that Brentford’s Thomas Frank has emerged as the leading contender in the last couple of weeks.

“As we reported, Daniel Levy has been impressed with Frank during conversations.”

A host of other managerial names have previously been assessed by Spurs’ hierarchy as they look for alternatives to Postecoglou.

These include former boss Mauricio Pochettino, along with Roberto De Zerbi, Andoni Iraola, Oliver Glasner, Kieran McKenna, and Marco Silva.

What Thomas Frank said about Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou earlier this year

Back in January, Frank – who has been called ‘amazing’ – spoke to reporters ahead of the Premier League fixture between Brentford and Spurs.

At the time, Tottenham were in the midst of a serious injury crisis that deprived them of many of their top players.

Frank told the Brentford : “When results are also not going your way, that’s tough.

“They’re things we need to deal with as managers and I’m convinced that Ange is doing that well and he will get through it.

“He doesn’t need advice, but he just needs to trust his own processes and trust what he believes in, which he does – that’s the main thing.

“When we played Tottenham away earlier this season, we played a very, very good Tottenham team – I thought they were flying.

“When they hit their high level, they are very hard to play against.

“I expect a game between two teams that want to attack, so it could be open at times. We need to be the team that controls an open game, which is difficult.”
