Daniel Levy plotting transfer move which could repeat Brennan Johnson trick at Tottenham

Some might expect that Daniel Levy will oversee a shift in Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer strategy in this new Ange Postecoglou era.

Spurs are now playing with a lot more tactical freedom under Postecoglou, a manager who prioritises progressive football.

And whilst Antonio Conte’s methods do reserve respect, he’s won so much in the game, his ideas became stale at the club.

It now seems as if Levy and Postecoglou are in complete unison over the profile of players they will target for Tottenham in the future.

That being said, it seems Levy will stick by one technique that has served the club well in the past.

It was recently reported that senior figures at Tottenham would really like to sign Kalvin Phillips before January ends.

And via a new report from , that move would be perfectly explained by Levy’s ongoing transfer strategy.

In this incident, the report was explaining why Spurs are interested in Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, but the message was the same.

Levy sees a huge opportunity in buying suitable players from rival clubs who are looking to balance their books.

Both Richarlison and Brennan Johnson were used as examples by the report.

Levy recognised that both players were at clubs who needed to boost their revenue and could sell for the right price.

And although some may feel that Spurs overpaid for both forwards, Levy would argue otherwise.

So whilst Postecoglou is bound to have a big say in Tottenham’s transfers, Levy’s judgement is also key as well.

Judging by this information, Spurs have recognised Chelsea’s need to generate revenue from player sales, and they’re ready to profit as a result.

And although Manchester City might need to offload Phillips for the same reasons, Levy may have still spotted a similar opportunity to achieve value in a market where there is often little.

That being said, Spurs have now just been told that one of their key summer targets could be available for as little as £9m in the coming months.

Tottenham are looking like a club with a clear plan, and they could soon be the envy of many.
