Daniel Farke says 23-year-old Leeds player is exceeding expectations

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has praised Ethan Ampadu for how he has been developing while at Elland Road.

The Whites boss, speaking to the , suggested that the 23-year-old has been exceeding expectations.

Ampadu has become an ever-present in the Leeds starting XI, playing the full 90 minutes in each of the Whites’ league and cup games so far this term.

Leeds signed the midfielder from Chelsea in a deal in the summer and he has proven a revelation for the Elland Road outfit.

‘He’s doing exceptionally well’

Ahead of Leeds’ Championship meeting with Coventry, the YEP asked Farke what he had made of Ampadu’s efforts this season.

“Overall a fantastic season, we are more than happy how he has developed also since we signed him,” he said.

“You couldn’t predict that it would work that smoothly and on this level when we signed him because he had also a few tough, tough years. But he’s doing exceptionally well.

“I think had, especially in the beginning and after I would say game day six, many, many top, top class performances. I think the last performance was solid in terms of defending and the stability that he gives.

“Yes, sometimes his forward passing could be a bit more precise and tidy in the recent games but even if he doesn’t have his best days, he is still there with a seven out of 10 and this is also what we need in the middle of the park.”

Ethan Ampadu a revelation for Leeds United

It’s great to see Ampadu doing so well, and to be fair, it’s not that surprising, because he’s an outstanding player.

While at Chelsea, he was farmed out on loan time and time again, but now he’s on the books at a club that’s giving him game time, and he’s repaying them in the perfect way.

Ampadu is clearly a cut above in the Championship and hopefully he’ll be back in the Premier League with Leeds next season.
