Daniel Farke says 23-year-old Leeds ace gave ‘one of his best performances of the season’ at Plymouth

Leeds United manager Daniel Farke praised Illan Meslier’s display in Saturday’s 2-0 Championship win at Plymouth Argyle.

The Whites boss believes the Elland Road goalkeeper gave “one of his best performances of the season” as Leeds picked up an eighth consecutive league win.

Meslier helped Leeds earn their seventh clean sheet in this run of Championship victories, emerging triumphant amid increasing pressure from the hosts.

The 23-year-old did well to keep his composure throughout and, crucially, he stayed strong at set-pieces.

Farke, speaking to after the match, singled Meslier out for praise, saying he was: Outstanding today.

“One of his best performances of the season today. Solid decision-making. Feet on the ball.

“Last free-kick bounced before him, he did not take a risk. Put it out of the danger area to the sideline.

“Good performance and you could feel him on the pitch today. When you go back with a clean sheet you have always done everything right.”

Meslier’s decision-making and command of his area were great against Plymouth, and those were areas where he sometimes struggled in the past.

The hosts were crowding round the Leeds keeper on every set-piece, but he came through a testing afternoon with flying colours and a clean sheet.

It’s great to see Meslier impress on the pitch and get his flowers from Farke. presenter Jon Newsome also liked what he saw, deeming the keeper “outstanding” on the day.

Leeds are next in action on Friday as they host table-topping Leicester City at Elland Road. Victory for Farke’s charges would narrow the gap to six points.
