Director of football now resigns from current role after being heavily linked with Newcastle
All eyes could be about to turn to Newcastle United as Brighton and Hove Albion have confirmed that Dan Ashworth is stepping away from his role at the club as technical director.
The Seagulls have the news this morning and it is bound to perk the interest of Newcastle United and PIF, who have been looking for a key figure in a similar role at St James’ Park. Indeed, Ashworth has been as a potential candidate to take up such a role in the northeast.
Ashworth has been lauded by many for his work at Brighton. He has overseen the club climb to and maintain a Premier League position, working closely with Graham Potter to enjoy success at the AMEX.

Newcastle, meanwhile, enjoyed a successful enough January transfer window. However, there was some reports of certain deals not being done quite right which has led to the Mags missing out on some players.
Should Ashworth take over at Newcastle, he’ll be given responsibility for building the club. It is thought Newcastle want to follow the lead of clubs like Man City. Certainly, it could be a big step up for the Brighton supremo.
TBR’s View: Ashworth Perfect For Newcastle
This is the sort of appointment Newcastle need to make. They need that person in this role to ensure they continue to build and progress. It’s all well and good having PIF’s money, but they need that middle-man to manage everything.
Ashworth has been superb at Brighton. If he can replicate that with Newcastle – if he does indeed go – then it should have success written all over it.
