Curtis Jones posts on Instagram after scoring winner for Liverpool against Ajax
Curtis Jones has posted on Instagram after scoring the winner to help Liverpool beat Ajax at Anfield on Tuesday night, netting his first ever Champions League goal – and plenty have responded, including Danny Murphy and Rhian Brewster.
Jones, 19, clocked up his 25th appearance for Liverpool on Tuesday night as he lined up in midfield alongside Jordan Henderson and Gini Wijnaldum in midfield – with Thiago, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain still sidelined through injury.
Liverpool, who were also without goalkeeper Alisson, started Caoimhin Kelleher in goal over Adrian – with Jurgen Klopp choosing the Irishman last night due to his footballing ability compared to Adrian. Neco Williams also played at right-back.
The latter created Jones’ strike, with his deep cross floating over the top of Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana. The predatory instincts of Jones saw him gamble, run beyong Onana and volley home – and he posted on Instagram after the match.
It was the England Under-21 international’s sixth goal for the Reds since netting against Merseyside rivals Everton in the FA Cup last season. His other two goals this season came against League One side Lincoln City in a 7-2 Carabao Cup win.
Plenty responded to Jones’ Instagram, including Brewster – who left the club to join Sheffield United in the summer. Ex-Reds midfielder Murphy also commented, along with current Liverpool players Harvey Elliott and Rhys Williams.
