Crystal Palace should attempt to appoint Europa League-winning manager – opinion

Crystal Palace will be looking for a new manager in the summer and they should look to sign Austrian Oliver Glasner.

Roy Hodgson’s spell as interim manager will end in the summer. He replaced Patrick Vieira and was tasked with the job of keeping the Eagles in the Premier League. He did this with ease and now the South London side are looking comfortable with three games left of the season.

Glasner is currently at Eintracht Frankfurt, but Fabrizio Romano that the coach and Frankfurt would be parting ways at the end of the season.

Glasner is not looking to stop managing for the time being. Romano stated that the Austrian is prepared for the new chapter in the next few months.

Crystal Palace should look to appoint Oliver Glasner

Glasner is well appreciated across Europe. He is already attracting interest, including some from London rivals Tottenham. They have already made contact with him.

Although Glasner and Frankfurt are parting ways, the Austrian would be a great option for the Eagles. He is only 48 but he already has good wealth of managing experience.

Some of the clubs he has managed alongside Frankfurt have included Wolfsburg and LASK. He has averaged over 1.50 points per match at each of the clubs.

Scouting Foot the Ball recently wrote: “Glasner demonstrated his tactical nous and flexibility while at Wolfsburg.

“Switching between a back three and four while also getting the very best out of the likes of striker Wout Weghorst, who scored 45 times in 84 games under the Austrian.

“It’s his ability to get more out of average players that make him one of the best in his business.”

What makes Glasner a potential exciting option for Palace is due to his success with Frankfurt. In his 93 matches, Glasner has managed to keep Frankfurt a consistent top half team.

Last season, he would have been loved by all at the club as he helped them to win the Europa League. This is a great achievement.

This season, the side sit ninth, it is still a good position but not his best with the club. Despite this, he has managed to get them to a cup final and it would be a great send off if they could win the cup.

Palace need to show some ambition. Signing Glasner would be a big statement. He clearly loves a cup competition and fans of the Eagles would no doubt love to have a manager who could help them lift a trophy.
