Crystal Palace fans despair as Christian Benteke bags contract extension
Crystal Palace fans have expressed their shock and disappointment on Twitter after the club announced a contract extension for Christian Benteke.
, with defender James Tomkins also agreeing an extension.
Striker Benteke’s extension comes as a major surprise given his lengthy struggles in front of goal at Selhurst Park.
The Belgian has bagged just 21 goals in 98 appearances for the club, and is yet to get off the mark this term.
In 2018/19, the 28-year-old scored just once in 19 appearances and the season before that he scored three.
It has been a major fall from grace for Benteke, who initially took the Premier League by storm when he signed for Aston Villa from Genk in 2012.
The 6ft 3in hitman has seemingly completely lost his confidence in front of goal, and supporters have found it tough getting behind him since he’s been given so many opportunities to turn things around by Roy Hodgson.
