Crooks compares Sebastien Haller to three West Ham legends
West Ham United parted with a Eintracht Frankfurt striker Sebastien Haller this summer. The 25-year-old forward began repaying his hefty price tag with a fine display against Watford on Saturday.
Haller opened his account for the Hammers with a well-taken brace at Vicarage Road. The Frenchman showed plenty of awareness and predatory instincts to twice pop up in the box in the right place at the right time to score.
Manuel Pellegrini will certainly be pleased with his new striker’s contribution. BBC pundit and former striker Garth Crooks was also impressed. In his , Crooks said, “Haller is not what I would call a West Ham player in the traditional sense. There is nothing of the Bryan ‘Pop’ Robson or the Frank McAvennie about him but more of the David Cross…if he does half as well as any of those he will be an enormous hit with the fans”.
TBR’s view
To be mentioned in the same breath as that trio of West Ham legends is high praise indeed. Robson, McAvennie and Cross are beloved figures at the London Stadium.
Haller certainly has plenty of quality. He boasts both imposing physical attributes as well as lots of technical ability. He certainly looks like he has the capacity to score plenty of goals for the Irons this season. The east London outfit could have another hero-in-the-making in Haller.
