Cristian Romero drops seven-word hint suggesting his Tottenham future has already been decided
Cristian Romero’s future is set to be a hot topic at Tottenham Hotspur this summer, however, the Argentine may have just clarified what he will do.
Romero, who Spurs signed for £47m, claimed the Man of the Match award in the Europa League final as the defender highlighted exactly why Spurs fans are so keen for him to stay.
Atletico Madrid have been linked with Romero as Diego Simeone looks to bolster his defensive options in the Spanish capital.
The defender currently has two years left on his contract in North London, and now, he has issued a statement on social media hinting at his decision over his plans for next season.

Cristian Romero claims Tottenham must ‘continue’ down current path
Cristian Romero has suggested that he is ready to continue at Tottenham Hotspur amid uncertainty over his current future. The 27-year-old issued a heartfelt message on his Instagram, which follows the North London club’s crazy celebrations of their Europa League triumph.
Romero said on Instagram: “We achieved what we wanted this season as a group, and that’s what matters. My name is part of the history of this beautiful club. I want to thank you all for the love and support every day despite everything, but I have no doubt that staying together led us to success.”
But it is the last line of his Instagram message which feels the most telling as he adds: “We must continue; this is the path.” The defender is either hinting that he is ready to stay at Spurs or that he wants Ange Postecoglou to stay on as manager.
Postecoglou’s future at Tottenham remains uncertain despite him having just ended the club’s 17-year wait for silverware.
Ange Postecoglou and Cristian Romero’s future at Tottenham could be linked
One thing which seems quite clear is that Postecoglou and Romero share a strong bond at Tottenham. The Australian manager made the World Cup winner one of his vice-captains when he joined the club back in 2023.
Sacking Postecoglou could well harm their hopes of keeping the defender who clearly loves playing for the 59-year-old. Tottenham may look to reopen contract talks with Romero, having held discussions with him last year.
Romero’s contract talks with Tottenham had been put on hold given the uncertainty around the club. Back in December of last year, TBR Football revealed that the Argentine international wanted to be playing Champions League football next season, and he can now do that with Spurs.
