Cristian Romero injury: Spurs and Argentina star breaks silence on Twitter

Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero has sent a Twitter message to Spurs and Argentina fans following his injury layoff.

The Tottenham centre-back suffered a hamstring injury playing for Argentina in last month’s World Cup qualifier against Brazil.

Speaking ahead of Spurs’ Premier League meeting with Brentford earlier this week, Antonio Conte admitted Romero’s injury is “very serious”.

The Tottenham boss also said he doesn’t expect the 23-year-old to be back in action until the New Year.

“The news is not positive, the injury is serious,” quoted Conte as saying.

“It will take time before we see him again.

“Surely next year, we have to check his injury week by week, but the injury is serious.

“Now he is trying to recover, but he needs a long time to recover.

“It is a pity because he is an important player for us, the injury is very serious.

“I don’t know, January, February. But for 2021, he has finished [playing].

“We have to wait and recover well.”

On Friday afternoon, Romero broke his silence with a message to Spurs and Argentina supporters:

Romero’s message, written in Spanish, translates in English to: “My dream year in every way. It ends like this, unfortunately.

“My first muscle injury and of this magnitude. Now with my head on my recovery and eager to return.”

Romero had enjoyed a superb 2021 prior to his injury.

He was named the best defender in Serie A last season for his heroics with Atalanta and won the Copa America in the summer, as well as sealing a big move to Spurs.
