Craig Burley says Tottenham need to drop ‘atrocious’ £15m player
Tottenham Hotspur’s purple patch came to a crashing halt last weekend as they were beaten 3-2 by Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium.
Ange Postecoglou’s side had won each of their last six games in all competitions before their clash against the Seagulls and took a 2-0 lead in the first half courtesy of goals from Brennan Johnson and James Maddison.
However, the home side staged a stunning fightback after the interval as Yankuba Minteh, Georginio Rutter and Danny Welbeck got their names on the scoresheet to give Fabian Hurzeler’s side all three points.
Tottenham have largely been good over the past month and a half and will look to brush off the Brighton game as a one-off.
However, Craig Burley believes one of their attackers is desperately out of form and should be benched in the coming weeks.
Craig Burley delivers grim verdict on Tottenham loanee Timo Werner

Timo Werner has got a run of games under his belt in recent weeks due to the injury absence of Son Heung-min but has failed to make an impression.
The German international is yet to find the back of the net this season and his finishing has been miles off the pace, having notably missed a few golden opportunities against Manchester United last month.
Burley feels the 28-year-old’s finishing is ‘atrocious’ as he called for Postecoglou to take him out of the firing line.
“And again, I don’t want to sort of pick on him, but I am going to,” said Burley on ESPN UK’s YouTube channel.
“I mean, Timo Werner. Timo Werner whatever he did in Germany, he has been unable to do in two spells in England.
“His end product was once again atrocious, and that adds to the pressure that goes on a team defensively when you are just not finishing teams off.

“It wasn’t just Timo Werner, but if he starts the next game after the international break, I will be very surprised.
“A young 17-year-old in Moore is probably going to come in his place. Brennan Johnson has come through a tough time when people were talking about his end product. He gets six goals in six.”
Writing is on the wall for Timo Werner at Tottenham
Spurs had the option to buy Werner permanently for earlier this summer but opted to extend his loan for another season.

While there is still time for him to make amends, he simply hasn’t been good enough for Tottenham and has consistently fluffed his lines in front of goal.
A lot could change between now and the end of the season but Tottenham are unlikely to exercise the option to sign him permanently despite the meagre option to buy.
