Could Wesley’s return for Aston Villa help Ollie Watkins explode?

Aston Villa continued their fine form last night with a 3-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League.

The Villans were able to avoid the ‘new manager bounce’ of the home side, spoiling Sam Allardyce’s first game in charge of the Baggies.

It was a convincing win for Villa, with Anwar El Ghazi striking either side of Bertrand Traore, who scored his first Premier League goal.

Dean Smith’s side atoned for their wastefulness against Burnley in midweek, and the manager will hope to see that cutting edge continue.

After the game, Smith spoke about Ollie Watkins and how he felt for him having had another goal rule out by VAR.

He’s been a bit unlucky, but the Englishman has now gone five games without a goal and one wonders if he might benefit from a bit of help.

Early 2021 should see the return of the injured Wesley after a year out, and the Brazilian could forge a tasty partnership with Watkins.

TBR’s View – A destructive duo?

Of course, there is no telling how Wesley is going to fare following his serious knee injury.

But theoretically, the £35,000-a-week star’s () physical style could mesh nicely with Watkins, who is a more mobile forward.

Perhaps it is something for Smith to consider once the ex-Club Brugge star is back fit.

Maybe putting him on to change things up a bit could be the way to go but alongside Watkins rather than in place of him, with Villa’s system having worked fairly well this term.
