Could Spurs reignite Weghorst interest if Glasner replaces Mourinho?

Oliver Glasner has become the latest name in the frame for the Tottenham Hotspur job, that he is on Daniel Levy’s radar.

Glasner has done a superb job in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg. They currently sit third in the table and are on course to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since Kevin De Bruyne’s final season before his move to Manchester City.

Admittedly, that the 46-year-old is not a top target for Tottenham. But should their search continue for too long, Daniel Levy will surely have to seriously consider every name on the wishlist.

Right now therefore, it seems unlikely that Glasner will get the job. But should Levy experience a change of heart, perhaps it would not be too difficult to work out who the Austrian’s top target would be.

Wout Weghorst has been outstanding this season. The 28-year-old has scored 20 goals in the Bundesliga for Glasner’s men. In all competitions, he has 25 strikes to his name.

His form may not come as a major surprise to Tottenham however. that Spurs were seriously interested in signing him last summer. He also claimed that it was his dream to play in the Premier League.

So if Glasner did indeed get the job, surely there would be plenty of talk of Spurs going back in for Weghorst.

A move may be even more tempting this time around. He turns 29 in August, so there may not be many more opportunities to move to England on the horizon.

And of course, the opportunity to keep working with Glasner will surely appeal to Weghorst.
