Could Nathan Ake to Manchester City push John Stones to Arsenal?
It is being reported that Nathan Ake is expected to join Manchester City in the next transfer window.
, the Bournemouth defender is close to joining Pep Guardiola’s side, with the Spaniard eyeing a rebuild at the Etihad following the recent overturn of their European ban by CAS.
City are to finish way behind Liverpool in the Premier League with their defence has struggled throughout 2019/20, which probably explains why the club appear to be making a move for Ake.
The fee being reported is £35 million, for a player who has stood out for the struggling Cherries this season.
Should Ake complete a move to the Etihad, it will be interesting to see what that might mean for the future of John Stones.
The England international has fallen down the pecking order this season and drawn some criticism.
Perhaps Ake moving to City may accelerate a move to Arsenal for the 25-year-old, with the Gunners having been linked with a move earlier this year ().
TBR’s View – Emirates move would sense
It would be no surprise to see Stones wind up at Arsenal if the reported Ake move did go through.
The Gunners are now under the guidance of Mikel Arteta, who of course knows Stones very well having been Guardiola’s number two.
Arsenal’s defence has been criticised heavily once again this season, although improvements have been made since Arteta’s arrival.
Stones, who earns £100,000-a-week at City (), reuniting with Arteta is certainly something that shouldn’t be ruled out, especially if City are about to present him with another potential barrier to regular first-team minutes.
