Would Manchester City’s Fabian Delph make a good addition for Newcastle United or Stoke City?

The  report that Pep Guardiola is open to the idea of selling injury-prone central midfielder Fabian Delph with Stoke and West Brom both interested in a deal, which could cost in the region of £12-15 million, whilst the  state that Newcastle United could also consider a move.

What would he bring to any of the three sides?

Delph has shown across his career that he has the ability to be a key player for a mid-table Premier League side, and at times his superb displays in the heart of Aston Villa’s midfield, before he moved to Manchester, looked to be the difference between survival and relegation.

An excellent passer of the ball and also more than capable of breaking up play in a more defensive role, he would undoubtedly bring quality and leadership to the middle of the park at Stoke, West Brom or Newcastle. His style could fit in at any of the three clubs, though he may prefer the more free flowing style of Stoke or Newcastle.

Is a move likely?

Certainly. This summer is likely to see Pep Guardiola trim the fat of his squad with more additions likely as he moulds the squad to fit his own image, and with only five starts in all competitions last season it is unlikely that Delph will be retained by the former Barcelona boss.

His injury problems are also likely to have frustrated the Catalan manager, who is often keen on having a very fit squad, and that could end any hopes that the former Leeds prospect had of reviving his career at the Etihad, particularly having been dropped from the eight man squad for the last seven fixtures of the season despite being injury free.

At £12-15 million, Delph could also fund some of their summer spending and is bound to have a list of potential suitors from across the Premier League.
