Could James Forrest be Liverpool’s next bargain Shaqiri style signing?

Liverpool have not shied away from spending big in the recent past, as moves for the likes of Naby Keita and Alisson Becker have proved, but Michael Edwards has detected some real bargains, such as Andrew Robertson and Xherdan Shaqiri. The next could be Celtic’s James Forrest.

say that the Reds are considering an £8 million bid for the 27-year-old winger, who would provide depth on the flanks in attack to allow the front three to rest.

Such a move would also pay testament to the success of Shaqiri since he joined in the summer, often dropping into an advanced midfield role in order to give him game time alongside the first choice front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

With 11 goals and 17 assists in 35 games under former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, it’s easy to see why clubs like Liverpool may be contemplating a January move for Forrest.

At such a bargain price, he may well provide a short-term option to fill the gap. However, others may point to the incredible form of youngster Harry Wilson on loan at Derby County and ponder whether Forrest would block his path to the first team.

Liverpool fans may well be excited at the prospect of such a talent at such a low price, but they can rest assured that Edwards will make the right call.
