Could Diego Llorente’s Leeds move open door for Olly Casey loan exit?

Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League has prompted Marcelo Bielsa to modify one aspect of his transfer policy.

Bielsa has previously seemingly shown little interest in loaning out the club’s brightest youngsters. Remarkably, no player who has been loaned out during Bielsa’s tenure has gone on and made a competitive appearance for the Whites’ first-team upon their return.

However, that stance seems to have changed slightly since promotion. Ryan Edmondson and Jordan Stevens have both left on temporary deals this summer. And it would be little surprise if more followed before the window shut.

But there is seemingly a catch.

that Bielsa is happy to let players leave on loan once the club have signed cover.

In Stevens’s case, it would appear that Crysencio Summerville’s arrival potentially paved the way.

So it will be interesting to see if another loan exit is soon on the cards once Leeds complete what looks set to be their next marquee move of the summer.

, the Whites are close to landing Diego Llorente. It has been suggested that the 27-year-old is set to undergo a medical ahead of a move.

Llorente looks to be a superb signing for Bielsa’s side. They have added Robin Koch to their ranks already. But it did appear that the club did need further depth in that area of the pitch.

Nevertheless, perhaps it should not be a surprise if Llorente’s arrival opens the door for Olly Casey to leave on loan should an offer come in.

Like Llorente, Casey is a centre-back also capable of playing in holding midfield. In fact, he seemed to have a taste of playing both roles in Leeds’s recent Carabao Cup tie with Hull City.

Of course, Leeds may want to hold onto Casey. He could still benefit from playing at under-23 level.

But with Pascal Struijk likely to be fourth choice from now on, Casey’s first-team prospects look fairly bleak for the time-being.

So a loan move may make a lot of sense for the extremely-talented 19-year-old. And based on the weekend reports, Leeds are unlikely to have many concerns should a team come calling for Casey.
