‘Could be developed’, ‘no ta’: Some Celtic fans talk one-time Rangers gem with 11 goals from midfield
A number of Celtic fans have given their thoughts on the hypothetical signing of Lewis Ferguson after Glasgow Rangers cult hero Barry Ferguson said his nephew, who was released by the Ibrox side as a youngster, would “of course” consider a move to Parkhead if the Hoops came calling.
Lewis, like uncle Barry and father Derek, was on Rangers’ books, but while the latter two enjoyed illustrious careers at Ibrox, the former was released by the Gers in 2013 and went on to join Hamilton Academical.
The 20-year-old broke into the Accies first team in 2017 and was on the move to Aberdeen a year later, where his career has gone from strength to strength as one of the first names on Derek McInnes’ team sheet.
To date, Lewis has made 82 appearances for the Dons, registering an impressive from midfield in all competitions; this term he has made 38 appearances, scoring three goals and claiming nine assists.
Barry was asked about the matter on , and he replied: “Of course he would consider it. It’s a big club. Would I talk to him again? I’d need to think about that!
“He’s the type of boy that it wouldn’t faze him. It wouldn’t bother him about his dad playing at Rangers and obviously his uncle playing for Rangers.
“If it was the right fit for him, Lewis has got to look out for his own future so if Celtic came in I think he would have to consider it.”
Celtic and Rangers are Scotland’s biggest clubs, so naturally if the Hoops came calling for Lewis, they would be a step up from Aberdeen.
Given the Ibrox side released Lewis when he was a youngster, he doesn’t owe them anything.
He has been carving out his own career and is now one of Scotland’s most promising young players.

He’s a tough lad, lacking in most aspects of forward play and incredibly raw. But I think he could be developed into an effective player up front. We lack a bit of steel up front, have done since Dembele left. Ferguson could develop into a good player against teams who sit in.
