‘Could be’… £42m Man City player may be the signing for Tottenham in January – journalist

Tottenham Hotspur may need to beef up their midfield in the January transfer window.

The north London club’s lack of depth in that position has been exposed in recent weeks due to an ongoing injury crisis, and Spurs’ selection issues may only get worse in the winter.

Indeed, with both Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma set to head off to the African Cup of Nations in January, Spurs may well be left light in the midfield, but, luckily, the transfer window will be open at that time.

So, who could Tottenham get in? Well, speaking on the , Dean Jones has named Kalvin Phillips as a potential signing for Tottenham next month, claiming that he’s likely to be leaving Manchester City in search of regular first-team football and that he wants to stay in the Premier League.

Phillips could be one for Tottenham

Jones shared what he knows about the man.

“It could be in midfield, they get involved in that Kalvin Phillips discussion. Kalvin Phillips is going to be leaving Manchester City, he’s looking for regular first-team football.

“I’m told he’d rather stay in the Premier League than go and try himself say at Juventus not that Juventus is a bad option, it’s obviously not it’s a chance of a lifetime.

“But, his whole point is getting ready for the Euros and making sure he’s in that picture, it’s a lot easier for him to join another Premier League team and fit into that than it is to go and test himself abroad.”

Good option

Phillips would be a fantastic option for Tottenham.

The midfielder has bags of ability and is proven at Premier League level, while Ange Postecoglou could be the perfect manager to put his arm around Phillips’ shoulder and get the best out of him once again.

One other factor to consider is that during his time at Leeds, Phillips showed he was more than capable of playing as a centre-half when needed as well, and with Tottenham lacking depth at the back, that could make Phillips a very appealing prospect for the north London club.

This could well be one to watch in the January transfer window.
