Arsenal could now keep Rob Holding, with reports claiming () manager Mikel Arteta has had second thoughts about the defender leaving on loan.
It was expected that Holding would have completed a move to Newcastle United by now, but the Gunners have been stalling.

The star recently caught the eye against Liverpool in the Community Shield, and perhaps his performance at Wembley has encouraged Arteta to think twice.
Arsenal have a plethora of centre-half options at the moment, with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes the newest additions.
One would think there will definitely be a sale/loan or two, but it looks like Holding might just be staying at the Emirates now.
And Holding staying put could well increase the likelihood of Calum Chambers leaving this window.
TBR’s View – Chambers in danger?
At the moment, Arteta has Saliba, Gabriel, David Luiz, Shkodran Mustafi, Pablo Mari, Sokratis, Holding and Chambers at his disposal, with Kieran Tierney also able to play as a left-sided centre-back.

Sokratis will likely depart but if Holding is kept, one would imagine the next likeliest defender to leave would be £50,000-a-week star Chambers ().
Although he did produce some good performances out of position last term, Chambers has never really nailed down a starting spot at the Emirates.
If Holding does not join Newcastle, it would be a surprise to see him in an Arsenal shirt in 2020/21.
