Could Alexis Sanchez really make a shock cross London switch from Arsenal to Chelsea?

In what would be a sensational transfer, the  claim that Alexis Sanchez could be open to a switch across London from Arsenal to join Chelsea.

With just one year left on his contract, the Gunners could be forced to cash in on the former Barcelona man this summer, but is Stamford Bridge really a potential destination?

What would Sanchez bring to Stamford Bridge?

Quality in huge quantities. One of the Premier League’s top providers of assists and goals last season, his creativity up-front alongside the likes of Eden Hazard would be a terrifying thought for any opposition defences.

However, what Chelsea have been crying out for this summer is a tough and physical centre-forward. Sanchez would not quite fit that mould and would surely not be a replacement for the outgoing Diego Costa.

He could alternatively play on the flank, where he would be perfectly suited to the Chelsea front three system employed by Antonio Conte. Questions would be raised over whether one Chelsea team could afford and accommodate both Sanchez and Eden Hazard alongside an out and out striker, though.

Is a move likely?

Not a chance. Arsenal seem desperate to hold on to the Chilean, and if they were to allow him to leave at all, chances are that it wouldn’t be to a Premier League side competing for the same titles as the Gunners.

The notion that Arsene Wenger and co. would allow their star man to join one of their biggest rivals just across the capital would be suicide for the Arsenal management.

If this deal were to happen, there’s next to no chance of it being this summer, and even next summer if Sanchez leaves on a free, he would burn all of his bridges at the Emirates by making the move.
