Conte uses one word to describe Sessegnon display in Tottenham win

Ryan Sessegnon, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg after Tottenham Hotspur’s stunning win over Manchester City on Saturday evening.

Spurs have reignited their push for the top-four in the Premier League. A goal for Dejan Kulusevski on his first start coupled with a brace for Harry Kane saw Tottenham beat the champions 3-2 in an amazing game at the Etihad Stadium.

It was a remarkable performance from the visitors. It was all the more impressive given that Tottenham had lost their previous three in the Premier League.

Of course, the latest came against Wolves in a game which saw Conte make a ruthless decision on Sessegnon. With Tottenham 2-0 down, it was the left-back who was replaced before the half-hour mark.

The youngster was not responsible for either goal. But it certainly appeared to be an ominous sign that Conte opted to replace him at that stage.

Sessegnon has had a tough time since moving to Tottenham. And this appeared to be the latest big blow to his hopes of making the grade.

However, with Sergio Reguilon unavailable, Sessegnon kept his place against City. And he went on to produce a disciplined display which included plenty of superb defending.

Meanwhile, Bentancur and Hojbjerg were colossal in midfield. The latter certainly reminded Tottenham fans of how good he can be.

Meanwhile, Bentancur showed how important he will be for Tottenham moving forward.

Conte was reluctant to single anyone out. But he did manage to outline how impressed he was with Sessegnon, Bentancur and Hojbjerg.

“The three central defenders, but also Sessegnon played a fantastic game, and Emerson. The two midfielders were incredible for their effort,” he said, .

Sessegnon needs to use his display as a turning point in his Tottenham career. It may not be easy, particularly when you factor in that he is behind Reguilon in the pecking order.

But that was much more like the performance Spurs fans have been waiting for.
