Conte says he recently realised three Spurs players are actually ‘good’, two of them could start tonight

Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has revealed that Christian Romero’s injury made him realise that Davinson Sanchez, Japhet Tanganga and Ben Davies are all good enough to play at the top level.
Spurs signed Romero for a lot of money in the summer. claimed at the time that the North Londoners forked out £42.5 million to sign the defender, making him the club’s second-most expensive player of all time.
The Argentine, sadly, has struggled with injuries. Romero has already missed 21 games for Tottenham in all competitions. That has forced Conte to look at other options and he says he has discovered something he didn’t know before.
Conte says he now believes that three Spurs defenders are actually good enough for his squad.
Conte: I realised Sanchez, Tanganga and Davies are good players
The Italian told the when asked about Romero’s injury: He’s doing very well.
“On one hand, we were very worried about Romero’s injury, but on the other hand I have had the possibility to give a chance to Tanganga and Sanchez, and also for Ben Davies.
“I discovered reliable players, good players. It was important for me and for Tottenham to understand that these players are good to play at this level.
“Sanchez is playing very well and has all the characteristics to become a top defender.”

TBR View:
Conte’s words make it clear that he did not trust Tanganga, Sanchez and Davies until a few weeks ago. The Italian probably even wanted to sell all three of them, but he has changed his mind now.
Sanchez has really improved under Conte, while Davies has slotted in very well at left centre-half. Both players are expected to start for Tottenham tonight in their Premier League game against Southampton.
A back three of Davies, Sanchez and Romero is a good one, but it will be interesting to see who will make way when Eric Dier returns from his thigh injury next week.
