‘A lot of space for improvement’: Antonio Conte suggests one Tottenham player’s passing really needs to get better

Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte believes Cristian Romero has what it takes to become a very important player for the club, but he needs to improve his passing.
The Argentine joined Spurs on loan in the summer and the move will be made permanent at the end of this season for £46.7 million ().
He has had a hard time with injuries, but his performances, on the whole, have been impressive considering it’s his very first season in English football.
Conte clearly likes Romero but the Italian’s system requires his centre-halves to play their part in the build-up. Romero can do that but there’s a lot he can still improve on.
Antonio Conte: Cristian Romero needs to improve his passing
Speaking in his press conference yesterday, the Italian said, as per : “He is young. He has not great experience. He is a young player with a lot of space to develop. I see him in this way.
“For sure he has good potential to improve, with the ball and without the ball. We are talking about another young player, you have to make experience and take experience and improve yourself. For sure he has a lot of space for improvement with the ball and without the ball.
“With the ball with central defenders, I like to start to play from behind. We are working a lot and I think we are improving in this aspect. In modern football, it is not enough to be only a good defender. You have to be good to play, as many teams start to play from the back.
“We are trying to improve in every aspect with our defenders, also with this aspect, but Romero is another young player with good prospects.”

TBR View:
Romero’s Tottenham career has been full of ups and downs so far.
He started really well under Nuno Espirito Santo but then suffered a terrible injury. He returned and impressed again, but he has made a few mistakes along the way, much like many of his teammates.
However, the potential is there for everyone to see.
23 is very young for a defender and Romero definitely has a lot to learn. Under a manager like Conte, he will do just that and if he can master his passing at the back, he will become one of the best defenders in the league in a few years’ time.
