Conte says Ben Davies has had an amazing season for Tottenham
Antonio Conte that Ben Davies has had an amazing season for Tottenham Hotspur, and claimed that the centre-back role looks to be perfect for the Welshman.
Spurs have seized the initiative in the race for fourth in the Premier League. They have now overtaken Arsenal. And while they have played a game more, it is Tottenham who look to have the momentum.
Spurs have won three of their last four and taken 10 points from a run that included Leicester, Liverpool and Arsenal. They have also only conceded two in their last five.
And Davies has been a key part of their success. The 29-year-old has produced some colossal performances, most notably at Anfield where Alan Shearer described him as ‘magnificent’.
He helped Spurs to another clean sheet on Sunday as they beat Burnley 1-0 in North London. And following the game, Conte suggested that he has been taken aback by how good Davies has been this term.
“I think he is having an amazing season. I think this position is perfect for him. It happened the same with Azpilicueta when I was at Chelsea, if you remember when we started to play at three at the back, he became one of the central defenders,” .
“Ben Davies is playing in a fantastic way like Dier and don’t forget Sanchez, he has played two amazing games for Romero.”

Davies will be leaving Conte with food for thought ahead of the summer. Previous reports stated that Tottenham would absolutely sign a new centre-back in the next window. And Davies would be the man many would tip for being replaced.
It would be a surprise if Spurs did not sign another defender. But perhaps, their role will be slightly different with Davies doing all he can to ensure that he is a first-choice again next year.
