Conte could unleash Spurs youngster tipped to ‘play at the very top level’ v Forest, fans should be excited – TBR View
Tottenham Hotspur will hope to get back to winning ways when they face Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup tonight.
Antonio Conte’s Spurs continue to blow hot and cold, losing to Liverpool in the Premier League last time out.
Tottenham did top their Champions League group en route to the knockouts, but they remain inconsistent.
Tonight, Spurs head to the City Ground to face the newly-promoted Reds, and Conte could well ring the changes.
One change could come in midfield, with Oliver Skipp backed by both and the to start.
This would be exciting, as the 22-year-old is a top talent who could do with more minutes to shake off his rustiness.
Skipp returned at the end of August following an injury-plagued six months.
The midfielder missed the final four months of 2021-22 with a pubis injury which resulted in him having to undergo surgery.
Skipp initially returned in pre-season, only to sustain a hairline fracture in his heel.
While he hasn’t had any injury issues since returning in August, he has struggled for minutes.
Skipp has only started two games, against Newcastle and Bournemouth, and he came off in both.
He’s going to take time to get back to his pre-injury level, hence why he needs more starts.
Tonight presents a superb opportunity for Conte to start Skipp and give him a chance to build some consistency.
‘He’s going to get better’
England Under-21 boss Lee Carsley believes that Skipp is “very underrated”.
The coach is also confident that the Spurs gem is going to get better and better.
“I’ve known Oli for a while. He’s very underrated,” he said last year, .
“He’s one of those players that when they are not in the team you notice them.
“He goes about his business really well. Works on his game. I think he’s still got a lot of development to do.
“He’s going to get better, he’s going to get stronger. Physically he’ll improve the older he gets.
“He has outstanding ability and I’m sure Tottenham see that as we have as well over the years.”
Meanwhile, scouting website lauded Skipp following his loan at Norwich.
‘Overall, Oliver Skipp has shown the attributes and ability throughout his season loan at Norwich to be able to go and play at the very top level further on his career,’ they wrote.
‘His footballing IQ, distribution, work ethic in regaining possession are all attributes that Skipp holds and that could be very valuable to a team in the Premier League next season.
‘I would hope that Tottenham allow Skipp out on loan again to develop further by getting more game time, as he could easily play Premier League football with Norwich or with another team of a similar caliber.’
