Conor Coady thinks Tottenham have just done something which could risk really annoying their own players

Conor Coady has suggested that many Tottenham Hotspur players will not be best pleased following an announcement which the club has made in the last few days.

Of course, thoughts right now are largely on the final weeks of this Premier League season. Ange Postecoglou‘s side remain right in the mix to make the top-four and secure a return to the Champions League next season.

It has obviously been a gruelling campaign for Spurs, who have had to deal with so many injuries. So some of the players may already, in the back of their minds, be looking forward to a break.

However, that break, for some, will not come immediately after they face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on the final day of the Premier League season.

Tottenham have announced that they will face Newcastle in Australia just a few days after. Of course, that will be a special occasion for Ange Postecoglou.

But speaking on , Conor Coady believes the players involved in Melbourne may not share Postecoglou’s enthusiasm for the post-season fixture.

He said, learning of the fixture: “Are they?

“I bet that’s gone down well in the dressing room.

“After everything you’ve been through in the season with the games you’ve played and everything, it’s not as if they’re jumping on an hour flight, is it? Being in a dressing room, you get that news through, you’d be saying ‘why’, first and foremost. Obviously, we know why, because it’s money situations and an opportunity to bring in a little bit of revenue from Australian fans to watch the team play, I completely get it. But I think with the Euros being around the corner, and that sort of thing happening, a massive tournament being around the corner, I’m not sure whether it’s needed for football players. But from a club point of view, and bringing revenue into the club, that’s the sole purpose of it, yeah.”

Some players may actually relish opportunity

Because of the European Championships, you would imagine that a number of Tottenham’s key players will not be involved. Figures such as James Maddison will not want to take any risks ahead of the summer.

That may present an opportunity to some of the fringe players. Obviously, Postecoglou is unlikely to make any big decisions based on what happens against Newcastle in Melbourne. However, there may be scope for a couple of players to leave him with some food for thought ahead of pre-season.
