Conor Coady is proof that Wolves target Yoann Barbet is worth the risk

Wolverhampton Wanderers are one of several teams to be linked with a move for Brentford defender Yoann Barbet.

, Wolves are interested in the 25-year-old alongside Leeds United, Norwich City, Montpellier and Angers.

The centre-back is out of contract with Brentford at the end of the season and is an attractive signing on a free transfer for clubs.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side should fight hard to bring the Frenchman to Molineux for next season and should have no reservations about snapping up someone from the Championship.

Barbet is about to come to the end of his fourth season with Brentford and now has a wealth of experience in England’s second-tier.

But he has all the qualities and potential to make the step up to the top flight, while Wolves are living proof that the jump up in divisions is possible.

Coady is a ball-playing centre-back that is thriving during his first year in the Premier League and his schooling beforehand came in the Championship.

Barbet is a left-footed defender that could follow the same path and he looks ideal to slot into Wolves’ system.

He has the flexibility to play at centre-back or left-back, something he has done effectively at Brentford over the years.

Wolves boss Nuno should learn his lesson from Coady to see that there are some talented individuals in the Championship capable of playing at a higher level.
