Conor Chaplin feels Barnsley ‘outplayed’ Leeds United in loss

Leeds United are now just one point away from promotion to the Premier League following a 1-0 win over Barnsley at Elland Road yesterday.

An own goal from Michael Solbauer proved the difference but it was not the easy result many might have predicted for a game between top and bottom in the league.

Barnsley, especially in the second half, caused Leeds immense trouble throughout the fixture and will feel like they had chances to take at least a point from the game.

Indeed, those were the thoughts of Barnsley attacker Conor Chaplin when talking to the

“On the day I think we competed, well more than competed with (Leeds), in the second-half. Once we got to grips with the shape and the way they want to play out in the first-half, it was tough at times.

“I thought we outplayed them in the second-half. Outpressed them, outworked them but we’ve got to score goals.”

He felt that Barnsley had dominated at times and that Leeds were fortunate to come away with all three points.

No doubt this was not one of Leeds’ finest performances of the season.

Without the influential Kalvin Phillips in midfield, Leeds struggled to control the tempo of the fixture and were lucky that their Yorkshire rivals did not score what would have been a deserved equaliser.

But a sign of a great team is one that can win when not playing well and Leeds did just that yesterday.
